Cold Bridges

lyrics

When I'm out on a job, knowing that it's the real world I'm in
That I'm living in a new city, and I think of my
years playing the part, but still knowing the nest was up on that limb
that my beginning was only yesterday

I still made up my mind, and I've got bridges of my own
bridges that burn when they're in the cold
dead to the world, or so I am told
can't even see where the dollar stops
so I want to avoid the air these people breathe
it's deadening my soul

How long has it been since I refused to let this world be my world?
And what of those pictures in my head that I will lose unless I stay
but I won't stay

I still made up my mind, there's something inside, it's calling to me
I still made up my mind, and I've got bridges of my own
bridges that burn when they're in the cold
dead to the world, or so I am told
how many lives waiting there for me?
so many ignorant fools I've seen
